All 3 Types of the Liberty coin featured a female head facing left, her hair tied in a bun, wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, 13 stars surrounding, with the date below. Each face were just a little bit different. The reverse shows an eagle with a shield on its breast, perched on an olive branch and holding three arrows. All 3 Types have the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Ten D. around the edge. Type 3, With Motto (1866-1907) has E PLURIBUS UNUM in a ribbon, just over the eagle.
There are two types of this coin; Type 1, Covered Ear (1838-1839) and Type 2, No Motto (1839-1866) and Type 3, With Motto (1866-1907).
Coin Values: The coins from Charlotte, Dahlonega and San Francisco were low mintage and the green toned coins are highly sought after. The rarest is the 1870-CC and 1879-0. A 1842-O AU55 Gold $10 Liberty Head (Type2) sold for $8750, while a 1881-CC XF45 Gold $10 Liberty Head (Type3) sold for $2950 and a beautiful 1871 Proof-64 DCAM Gold $10 Liberty Head (Type3) sold for $22,500.
