The Liberty coin featured a female head facing left, her hair tied in a bun secured by a string of beads, wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, 13 stars surrounding, with the date below. The reverse shows an eagle with a shield on its breast, perched on an olive branch and holding three arrows. The inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 2 1/2 D. surrounds. E PLURIBUS UNUM just over the eagle is not present, the 1848 coin has the letters CAL where the motto has been.

Coin Values:  The coins from Charlotte, Dahlonega and Carson City were low mintage and the green toned coins are highly sought after. A 1841-C AU58 Gold $2.5 Liberty Head sold for $9750, while a 1845-D AU50 Gold $2.5 Liberty Head sold for $3500, and a 1848 CAL AU50 Gold $2.5 Liberty Head sold for $75,000.
