The design parallels that of other Seated Liberty issues, with Miss Liberty seated on a rock, holding in her left hand a liberty cap on a pole and with her right hand holding a shield inscribed LIBERTY. Thirteen stars are above, and the date is below.
The reverse shows an eagle perched on an olive branch and holding three arrows, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and ONE DOL. below.
There are four Types of the coin: Type 1 Flying Eagle Reverse, With Stars (1836), Type 2 Flying Eagle Reverse, No Stars (1839), Type 3 No Motto (1840-1866), Type 4 With Motto (1866-1873).
Coin Values: The most sought after coins of this design are the 1851, 1852, and 1858. The 1870-S, 1873-1874 CC are legendary because so few were minted and survive today. A 1840 MS62 was sold for $6500 while a 1859-O MS64 sold for $7500
