The Type 1, Flowing Hair (1879-1880) has Liberty with flowing hair, she wears a coronet, inscribed “LIBERTY” on her head.the inscription ★6★G★.3★S★.7★C★7★G★R★A★M★S★ is around the edge with the date at the bottom. On the reverse is a star that has the inscriptions ONE STELLA and 400 CENTS, while the reverse rim has the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FOUR DOL. Circling the star but between its points were the words E PLURIBUS UNUM (“Out of many, one”) and DEO EST GLORIA (“To God is the glory”).

The Type 2, Coiled Hair (1879-1880) is the same on both sides, except for the liberty face and hair are different. The hair is coiled in a bun.

Coin Values:  All of this coins are rare and highly sought after. A 1879 Proof-65 CAMEO Gold $4 Stella (Type 1) sold for $132,500.
