Osborne Coinage

Cincinnati, Ohio-based Osborne Coinage has the distinction of being the oldest private mint in America.

Founded in 1835 as Z. Bisbee Co., the mint produces custom coins, medallions, key tags and tokens for a wide variety of organizations. The company mints with aluminum, brass, nickel silver, copper—as well as fine .999 silver.

The mint started out producing gold and brass coins at a time in history when there was a great deal of public mistrust about the U.S. financial system. Eventually the company would move on to minting commemorative coins for presidential campaigns, including those of Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses Grant and Franklin Roosevelt. It would also move into the minting of company scrip used by employees of mining and railroad companies to use at company stores.

Today, Osborne Coinage continues to produce large numbers of custom promotional coins and medallions. It was once the number one minter of slot machine tokens until the gaming industry switched to a modern cashless ticket system. Osborne remains the industry leader when it comes to producing arcade and car wash tokens. Another important part of the private mint’s current operations include a partnership with the national mint of Canada to produce an assortment of circulating and circulating coins for several world nations.

The private mint also produces original, custom, and reproduced coins in both copper and silver under the name Osborne Mint. These products are available through various online distributors.
