What is an alloy made out of?

An alloy is a material that is made from the mixture of a ‘base metal’ and one or more other elements. An allow could be the mixture of two or more metals, such as sterling silver, which is around 92.5% silver (the base metal) and 7.5% copper (or other metals), or it can be made of a metal and non-metal allow, such as steel, which is 98% iron and 2% carbon.
