What is the fineness rating of gold?

Fineness is a triple digit representation of the purity of gold in percentage. Gold with a purity of 99.9% would be labeled as known as “triple nine fine” and be stamped with a 999. Gold with a purity of 99.0% would be known as “double nine fine” and be stamped with a 990. Etc.
