How do professionals get coins graded?

Professionals grade coins on the Sheldon coin grading scale, which rates coins on a scale from 1 to 70 based on their quality. Grades 1-59 are for circulated coins, while grades 60-70 are for uncirculated coins. Higher grades imply a greater condition, luster, and less wear than coins of a lower grade.
