What has intrinsic value?

As per the definition, anything with intrinsic value has value ‘in itself’ that is not dependent on outside speculation or influence. Physical items such as gold are commonly accepted as having intrinsic value, as gold can be used in all sorts of applications outside of the market while fiat money is accepted as having no intrinsic value as its value only comes from what it can be traded for.
