What is a Cameo?

A cameo is a mirror-like finish that is added to proof coins. Before 1971, only the first 100 coins from a proof set would include a cameo finish. Since 1971 cameo finishes became much more common on proof coins. Apart from regular cameo finishes, some coins have a deep cameo finish in which the coin has a greater depth than a regular coin.
