Coeur d’Alene, Idaho-based Sunshine Mint is a full-service sovereign mint with an international reach.

Founded in 1979, the mint offers blanks, branded bullion, and custom order bullion. The mint was recognized by Inc. Magazine in its 2013 Inc 5000 list of the country’s fastest growing companies. In 2012, the company reported revenue of $706.1 million and 52 percent revenue growth over a three-year period. In 2014, Sunshine Minting manufactured 70 million ounces of silver bullion.

The company claims it is the world’s leading precious metal mint products supplier, selling its services to corporations, marketing firms, central banks, government mints, other organizations, and private investors and collectors. The private mint operates manufacturing facilities in two states, as well as a facility in Shanghai, China. It also has sales offices in Canada, Austria and Argentina.

Sunshine Minting also provides vaulted storage of precious metal bullion for customers. Other services include assay, art and design for custom bullion, extruding, casting, rolling, blanking, coining, colorizing, gold plating and more.

Mint Location

The corporate headquarters and flagship mint facility of Sunshine Minting is located in Couer d’Alene, Ohio. The private mint also has newly commissioned location in Las Vegas, which opened in 2013. In 2011, the mint established a facility in the Putuo District of Shanghai, China.

Sunshine Minting’s Claim to Fame

Sunshine Minting is the leading supplier of blank silver planchets to the U.S. Mint. Sunshine Minting produces one ounce silver planchets for the production of American Eagle coins, and five ounce planchets for uncirculated silver and America the Beautiful silver bullion quarters. The company opened up its Las Vegas facility to keep up with the demand.

Executives

Thomas Power, 54, is president and Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Minting. Power joined the firm in 1997 as a member of the senior management team. A decade later, Power acquired 100 percent ownership of the company. Power started his career in precious metals inside the Canadian division of Johnson Matthey.
