What is a Hobo Nickel?

Form of sculptural relief art where artists modify small-denomination coins. Due to its low cost and portability, this medium was popular among hobos, which is where the name was derived. The US nickel was also favored because of its size, thickness, and relative softness. However, this term can describe any resulting modified coin.
