What is Krugerrand?
Copper-gold coin minted by the South African Mint to help market South African gold, started in 1967. During the 1970s and 1980s, some countries forbade the import of the coin due of its association with the apartheid government. This included the United States. These sanctions ended in 1991 with the end of the apartheid. Currently accounts for 90% of the global coin market. Rounds in a similar style are produced by private mints as bullion.
