What is Star Note?
Numismatic term to describe banknote that is printed to replace a faulty specimen. As no two banknotes can have the same serial number, the replacement note is printed with a symbol in its serial number to serve as a differentiator. An asterisk ( “*”) is used to indicate a star note in the United States and Australia, hence the name. Due to their scarcity, they are valuable to numismatists.
